Presidential Message
President-Dr. Merline Pitre, Ph.D.,.
Dean, College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral
Sciences- TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
To the SCAASl family.
As we prepare for the holidays and embrace this season of
gratitude and giving, we at SCAASI acknowledge that
we are fortunate to be part of an organization rich with a phenomenal tradition and a remarkable
heritage. We can take pride in our organization that has most aggressively strived to
preserve the history and culture of African Americans in the South. This organization
has been a vehicle not only for discussing, disseminating and preserving history, but for
nurturing a generation of students.
Thank you, members of SCAASI, for
your support of the organization. We depend on your priceless efforts, devoted talent and
monetary contributions to keep the organization afloat.
As we celebrate our past, we look ahead to the future -the upcoming SCAASI
Conference in Baton Rouge, February 15-17, 2007. The Program Committee has assembled
an exciting program that includes the latest scholarship on Katrina, as well as a series of
panels reflecting on our theme, "African American Lives: Before and After Katrina."
Best wishes for a safe and peaceful
holiday. May it be joyful, restful and wonderful.
Sincerely,
Merline Pitre, President
S.C.A.A.S.I.
